Are you ready for a long-term power outage? [Make your own power]
Be Storm-damage prepared with a backup generator! Amp Electric is a professional installer!
With two massive hurricanes affecting the U.S. in recent weeks, it’s been hard to miss the news of the devastation. Aside from the loss of life, the amount of infrastructure that will need to be rebuilt is overwhelming. Tens of thousands of people across Texas were without power for more than a week and in Florida and the East Coast over six million people were without power. We are fortunate to live in West Michigan where our storm damage is not usually so severe, but even we have seen our share of wind related damage this year.
Are you ready for a long-term power outage? The inconvenience of losing power is obvious, but also the loss of food in refrigerators and freezers, going without a/c or heat, medical equipment, well water not working… these are all things that can affect our health and well-being when we are without power for a period of time.
Amp Electric is proud to say that we are a Generac generator dealer. We install Generac generators because of their reputation and reliability. What that means for you is that we can help you install a backup generator system in your home to keep your home running safely and smoothly even during a power outage.
There are two main kinds of back up generator systems common in Norton Shores, Muskegon, and Grand Haven.
1. A portable generator system - these generators are smaller in their electrical output and size, but can be used to maintain some lighting, a furnace, a well, and small appliances. They are usually on wheels and are rolled out to the side of your house where we have professionally installed a generator quick-connect plug. You connect the generator to the plug on your house and the generator will feed power into your house. These generators run on normal gasoline. It is very important that these systems are professionally installed because there are specific safety measures that must be installed to prevent your generator from accidentally sending power down the main power lines. This could create a deadly situation and energize the power lines while utility crews are working to restore your main power. When installed properly, these are safe generator systems that will help your life maintain some normalcy while there is an outage.
2. A standby generator system - these backup generators are larger in their electrical output and are stationary alongside your house. They can power most of your home including furnace, a/c, lights, appliances, etc. The incredible part of these systems is that they require no interaction from you. They sense when the main power to your house is off and will AUTOMATICALLY turn on and feed power to your home. They are often called on-demand generators or automatic generator systems. These generators run on natural gas or propane fed directly from your normal fuel source. There are similar safety measures in place to prevent these generators from accidentally feeding power down the utility power lines as well. These systems are fantastic for people who rely on electricity for sump pumps, medical equipment, or those who want the convenience of never being without power.
