They sense when the main power to your house is off and will AUTOMATICALLY turn on and feed power to your home. They are often called on-demand generators or automatic generator systems. These generators run on natural gas or propane fed directly from your normal fuel source. There are similar safety measures in place to prevent these generators from accidentally feeding power down the utility power lines as well. These systems are fantastic for people who rely on electricity for sump pumps, medical equipment, or those who want the convenience of never being without power.
